Cherished Collections at Love of Stitch

19 Jul

Hello there!

I have been a fan of Caseys Blog, Caseys Elegant Musings as long as I can remember, and as soon as an email popped up in my inbox asking bloggers to share their Cherished Collection’s how could I resist? So today I will be sharing with you a select few from my collection of vintage sewing books, which always seem to jump out at me at book sections in charity shops! So without further ado let’s get started shall we?

So, these are the three Vintage Sewing books I have decided to show you from my collection. They are ‘Complete Needle Craft’, ‘ The Pictorial Guide to Modern Home Needle Craft’ and ‘Sew and Save’. Firstly I LOVE all the covers they have cute little vintage illustrations and all of them apart from Sew and Save are covered with fabric which I really like, which never seems to happen anymore! Shall we have a closer look at them?

Sew And Save:

This is actually a modern reproduction of the 1941 wartime edition but everything inside is the same as it origional edition. I brought it for £3 when I was on holiday in Cornwall a couple of years ago, but have been constantly inspired by it ever since! It’s got loads of really cute ideas in it and really has a lovely vintage feel to it. Here’s a few more pictures for you… ♥

 Complete Needle Craft:

This is a book I picked up last autumn for £1! I was in love with the fabric cover and the cutest litttle needle and stiches picture on the front! I am not sure when this book was published but i am guessing 1920’s because of the models hair, what do you think? It has everything from Embroidery to Upholstery and is fantastic to turn to when you need a bit of advice and the laptops not on 🙂 heres a few more pictures….♥

The Pictorial Guide to Modern Home Needle Craft:

This book was found last weekend in one of my favourite charity shops and I only payed £1.50 for it! I love the little picture on the front, as soon as I saw that I knew I had to buy it, even if what was inside wasn’t that great. Even the inside front cover is inspirational! As you will see with these lovely pictures…. ♥

I hope that you have enjoyed this post and have been inspired by Vintage Sewing books! If you would like to see more pictures from them just drop me an email at loveofstitch@live.co.uk or write a comment below – I would love to hear your opinions and I read each and every one! ♥

Also all of you who have visited from Caseys Elegant Musings if you want to check out all of the other Cherished Collections in the blog tour here is the link http://elegantmusings.com/tag/cherished-collections/. I can’t wait to see everyone elses! And what do you guys collect and what is your most Cherished Collection? Hope to hear from you soon!

Various Musings ♥

3 Jul

Heya!

Sorry it has been such a long time since my last blog post, a lot has been going on lately so sorry about that.

I thaught I would do a quick litle post about my newest sewing purchase! I have been oogling over the gorgeous Japanese Sewing pattern books all over Etsy and all over the web. I decided the best website to but them from was M is for Make, it is in the UK so less postage for me, she has a fantastic blog, and they send two pages (double sided) of translated Jaspanese terms with anything you could ever  need. And eventually I decided on the one called ” She has a mannish style ” which is a rather unfortunate name but it has gorgeous tailored designs. Here’s a link if anyone wants a quick peek… http://www.misformake.co.uk/product/she-has-a-mannish-style. I am quite smitten with the top on the first picture and the top on the far right of the bottom. What about you guys?

 Here are a few pictures:

Birthday Gifts!

12 May

Hello Folks!

Sorry it has been such a while since my last post but I have been a very busy bee! I know a LOT of people: friends family and myself, who have birthday’s in May! And my friends Susie’s birthday was yesterday, so I have been very busy for about a month now making her present.

As I mentioned in in my very first post I love making gifts and presents – especially seeing peoples reactions! So, after a lot of consideration I finally decided what I would make Susie…. A photo scrapbook!

Now I am not saying that I am a scrapbooker, i’m not, i’m more of a stitcher! But I thaught of the bunch of the photo’s I have collected over the three yeard I have known Susie, and having a bunch of papers, ribbons and decrotive tapes lying arround I knew I could do it.  Here are a few photo’s to have a look at…

Drew this myself ! ♥

We LOVE cake!!! ♥

Button Rings Tutorial ☻

1 May

Hiya!

I thaught for my first tutorial I would do something quirky, quick and easy. And I decided on button rings 🙂 there are step by step photo’s to help you through but if anyone is stuck, please post a comment and I will get back to you…

1. Start by collecting all your materials, you will need…

Some Fabric Scissors,  Buttons (about 3 but it is up to you!), Needle and matching thread, and a whole load of creativeness!

2. Measure round your finger that you will want your ring on , I chose my right index finger which measured 6cm, then you add on an extra centimetre for seam allowance, so totalling 7cm.

3. Measure the length on your elastic, then do a clean straight cut with your scissors to get the needed length.

4. Pin your elastic so that it fits arround your finger snuggly, don’t worry if it is a bit tight- this is the whole reason for using elastic – it can stretch. Then thread up your needle with your cotton and knot it at the end.

5. Do a few neat stitches to secure your elastic and finish off in the usuall way.

6.  Now comes the fun bit- choosing your buttons – as you can see I had a tough choice on my hands! I decided to go for reds but multicolour works great aswell! I chose 3 buttons but you can have as many as you want!

7.  When you have your buttons, thread up your needle again and we are going to sew the buttons on to the elastic one at a time to make sure they are nice and secure.

8. Once your base button is secure you can sew the next one on top carrying on with this process. And once you are finished secure with a couple of knots underneath.

(With 2 Buttons 🙂 )

9. Viola! You have your button ring! A gorgeous piece of jewellery that I am sure you will all get compliments for! And I would love to see  your pictures!

( I painted my nails with british flags for the royal wedding! )

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I would love to hear any feedback in the comments and feel free to email me with questions or photo’s … loveofstitch@live.co.uk

I am a  teenager, obsessed with sewing and anything crafty in general,

I love coming up with my own sewing patterns and hair clips and have used them as presents for as long as I have been making them. Also I love seeing the looks on peoples faces when you give someone something totally original that they know they couldn’t have got anywhere else!

Let me know what you guys would like to know about 🙂  and I would love to know some stuff about you guys too! x
